Serving Through Long Term Relationship
Mission teams have been part of WIND’s story for many years, but they have never been the whole story.
At WIND, teams are not sent to start something new and then leave it behind. They come alongside work that is already happening through local leaders, teachers, pastors, families, and students in Cotzal. A team may only be in Guatemala for a short time, but the purpose is connected to something much longer.
Mission teams help strengthen relationships, encourage local leaders, meet practical needs, and remind the community that they are not walking alone.
This is one of the ways WIND lives out its commitment to go deep rather than wide: returning to the same community, investing in the same relationships, and supporting the same long term vision for education, health, spiritual growth, and family support.
Why Misson Teams Matter
Mission teams create a bridge between those who support WIND and the families, students, teachers, and pastors WIND serves.
For team members, a trip often changes the way they understand poverty, partnership, faith, generosity, and service. For the community in Cotzal, teams bring encouragement, needed skills, practical help, and visible reminders of love and friendship.
The greatest impact is not only what gets built, taught, treated, installed, or delivered during a week. The deeper impact is the relationship that grows over years.

How Teams Have Served
Over the years, WIND teams have supported the work in Cotzal in many different ways:
Encouraging Students and teachers
Teams have served at Colegio Horeb through classroom activities, teacher support, student workshops, school celebrations, and simple daily encouragement. They help remind students that their education matters and remind teachers that their faithful work is seen and valued.
Some teams have offered workshops in areas such as goal setting, art, soccer, health, and awareness around issues affecting children and families. Others have simply helped wherever the school had a need.
In a place where education can change the direction of a child’s life, encouragement is not a small thing.
Strengthening Health and Dental Care
Dental teams have played a major role in WIND’s health work in Cotzal.
Through years of dental clinics, hygiene education, and partnership with teachers and local health providers, WIND has seen signs of long term change. More children and families are learning healthy habits. Preventative care is becoming more central. The goal is not only to treat urgent needs, but to build a culture of dental health that can continue growing over time.
When a child is free from dental pain, they are better able to eat, learn, focus, and participate in school. Health and education are connected.
Mission teams have helped make that connection visible.
Supporting Families
WIND teams have visited students and families in their homes, listened to their stories, prayed with them, and offered practical support.
Some teams have helped install efficient stoves, giving families a safer way to cook and heat their homes. Others have brought school supplies, helped celebrate graduates, or supported families during moments of need.
These visits matter because WIND’s work is not only about programs. It is about walking with families.
Equipping Pastors and Leaders
Pastor training teams have helped support spiritual leadership in the Ixil region through workshops, biblical teaching, and the Biblical Studies Certificate program.
These teams serve pastors and church leaders who are already ministering in their communities. The goal is not to replace local leadership, but to strengthen and encourage it.
When leaders are equipped, families, churches, and communities are strengthened.
The Impact Goes Both Ways
Mission teams bless the community in Cotzal, but they also change the people who serve. The love, joy, and faith of families they get to know are an inspiration in their own walk.
Team members often return home with a deeper understanding of generosity, poverty, and faith. They begin to see WIND’s work not as a project to support from a distance, but as a relationship they are personally connected to.
Many become long term advocates, donors, sponsors, prayer partners, and friends of the ministry.
A Ministry of Presence

At the heart of every WIND team is presence. Just showing up and being with them in the moment is the best “present” we can give.
Being present with students. Being present with teachers. Being present with families. Being present with pastors.
Mission teams are one way WIND continues to say to the community in Cotzal:
